Banknotes: German NotgeldBeautiful, colourful examples of regional currency (known as Notgeld) that was issued during the late days of World War I to the early days of German hyper-inflation. First used to counter the lack of circulating coinage but later used to enhance tourism.

Banknotes: Italian Mini-AssegniDuring a coin shortage in the late 1970s, these little notes were circulated by individual banks as a substitute.
